Jumaane Williams is in his third term serving on the New York City Council, and ran a groundbreaking progressive campaign for Lieutenant Governor of New York in 2018.
Jumaane is a first generation American and native Brooklynite. At an early age, Jumaane was diagnosed with ADHD and Tourette’s, but made it through NYC public schools from pre-school to master’s. Before he was elected to City Council, Jumaane worked as a community organizer and the Executive Director of New York State Tenants and Neighbors. Jumaane has been fighting for working people for his entire career.
As our next NYC Public Advocate:
FIGHT FOR ALL OF US. With two decades of deep experience fighting for the rights of labor — for workers rights, immigration rights, housing rights, and against police injustices — Jumaane will be the “People’s Advocate.”
CONTINUE TO STAND UP FOR WORKERS. Jumaane’s has a strong record of supporting organized labor on the City Council. He’s a lead sponsor of the Paid Vacation’s Act, which would require paid vacations for employees, especially for the thousands of New Yorkers who take no vacation time away from work.
MAKE NEW YORK MORE AFFORDABLE FOR WORKERS. Jumaane’s work on City Council includes passing landmark legislation to improve tenants rights, expand support for affordable housing, and pro-consumer and small business legislation to protect New Yorkers’ rights.
