Larinda's Biography

Larinda Hooks is a lifelong Democrat with real civic experience to continue making positive change for Queens. From her work at Elmcor to serving on block and civic associations, Larinda has consistently delivered results for her neighborhood. She’s fought for affordable housing and good-paying union jobs, getting illegal guns off our streets, and safety improvements. Larinda is endorsed by retiring Assemblymember Jeff Aubry, Councilmember Francisco Moya, State Senator Jessica Ramos, and nearly every Democrat in Queens.



Larinda on the Issues

Affordable Housing

One of Larinda's top priorities will be to fight for affordable housing. On the East Elmhurst Civic Association, Larinda helped bring affordable senior and supportive housing to Northern Boulevard. In the Assembly, she will push to bring even more affordable housing for working-class and low-income families, and provide protections to residents from eviction and displacement.

Good wages and jobs

Larinda knows how important jobs are to the community. At Elmcor, she facilitated job fairs that helped connect 824 local residents with good jobs. In the Assembly, she will fight tooth and nail to create good-paying union jobs in local neighborhoods, while ensuring any development projects use union labor. Larinda will also work with her colleagues to raise the minimum wage address wage theft.

A better education

As a former PTO President and graduate of the public school system along with her five children, Larinda knows firsthand the importance of a good education. That's why she will constantly advocate for fully funding our schools and bring home the resources they need - including childhood education and after-school activities. She'll also prioritize diverse programming to keep kids off of streets.
