Keith's Biography

Keith Powers knows our community, because he’s one of us. Born and raised in Manhattan, Keith has been serving the East Side since 2018. He’s been a champion of housing issues in the City Council, leading the charge to create new affordable housing options for residents. From helping senior citizens at Waterside Plaza negotiate a rent reduction to winning lawsuits to maintain rent stabilizations for residents who truly need it, Keith will be the champion for our families we need as Manhattan Borough President.

Keith on the Issues

Creating more affordable housing

It's no secret that rents are soaring in Manhattan, with substantial shortages of new housing. Keith will tackle this challenge as one of his top priorities by creating 100,000 new homes, building affordable housing on public properties, and maintaining rent stabilization for residents who need it. Keith’s record is clear – he’ll stand up as a champion on housing.

Better education for our children

Keith will invest in our children’s future by creating a nation-leading 2k program, providing parents the tools they need for success. He’ll also work tirelessly to achieve universal Pre-K and 3k for every child, and expand after school programming to help our working families. Keith’s plan will create a stronger, more affordable education system for every child.

Improving public transportation

Keith knows that our residents deserve efficient public transportation options. His plan calls to invest in mass transit with a new 34th Street busway, a free LaGuardia shuttle to create improved connections, and expanded OMNY cards for all students year-round. He knows that not everyone can afford to pay for a car, making it all the more critical to create reliable transit for all.
